I needed to pass the time.

A few years ago (okay like 8) I had a long commute to work, with lots of traffic and all the worst stuff a commute can have. I tried every single backroad (and there were a lot) to get to the same location. I even rode the bus and the train, but there wasn’t a direct route, so I was switching buses, always running to catch a bus, or waiting for the next bus. It was a longer commute by bus or train, like 2 hours plus. But at least I wasn’t driving. Still, it was tiresome.

Finally, I ended up just driving. You have a bit more freedom when you drive your own car.

And I found that the best recording studio is inside your car. It’s relatively soundproof, there’s good lighting during the day, and there’s always something interesting in the background. (I also learned that this recording environment makes some people very nervous because they think it’s unsafe or I’m going to crash any minute. Well, that’ll keep them watching on the edge of their seats.) (Or it was too much for them and they stopped watching altogether.)

So, I started recording videos.

It helped me pass the time. I was practicing being on video, and I was learning how to think of something interesting to say. That takes some time and thought. And I had plenty of that on the road.

Each day I began looking forward to my commute because I could record a video. The first ones are really bad, but I got better as time went on.

I posted them on YouTube, but my channel is full of other random stuff throughout my life, so I wanted to have a central place where all the Rex on the Road episodes were located.

Join me.

That’s why I started this site. So you can watch all the previous episodes, maybe learn some things, and be anxious while watching me film while driving. :)

Who knows, I may even add more, while I’m driving around. (I no longer have that long commute.) If you subscribe, you’ll get notified when new episodes drop. (That’s usually how it works.)

And feel free to comment on how much anxiety builds up in you while you watch.

Enjoy!
